In our modern achievement-oriented society rules in the job market have changed. Psychological stress, lack of physical activity, a harsh work climate and the fear of losing ones job affect most people on a daily basis. The growing level of stress is a ticking time bomb.
Renowned scientists estimate that up to seven percent of the Austrian work force is endangered. Amongst the high-risk-group (self-employed people, teachers, social jobs) the rate is estimated at around twenty percent. In many companies the term burnout is equalized with a lack of personal capacity. It is therefore important to create a universal awareness for the burnout phenomenon within the business world.
Especially the management and executive boards should implement actions against the burnout-syndrome on a preventative basis. Hence, educational measures are required. Burnout can have various consequences for the structure and success of a company. Employees who are pressured and/or stressed lack creativeness as well as productiveness. Also, exhausted and worn-out executive managers tend to make wrong decisions and are less able to work efficiently with others. In order to ensure success it is therefore essential to keep good company with employees/co-workers and to be considerate of their health.
