Employee burnout can be termed as “emotional exhaustion and detachment” from work, which could be due to a host of factors—both professional and personal. The major contributors to work-related burnout are—tight deadlines, high work pressure, no free time, stringent penalty clauses and poor leadership. Employee burnout is a common problem these days. Healthy competition at the workplace, mundane working schedule for long duration, stagnant growth, lack of rewards and recognition, man-manager issues, strict timelines, inadequate compensation etc., are some of the important factors which affect the morale of the workforce and result in employee burnout. Every employee needs motivation, support and recognition to work in an organization, apart from the monetary perks. Looking at this point, if the three basic needs of the employee are not met then he starts losing focus and trust, and does not feel interested to continue working with the same passion and dedication as earlier. This, in turn, results in increased absences and arriving late or leaving early. The other changes that take place in an employee are poor time management, disorganization, poor follow up, and lack of concentration. All this creates stress and also affects the physical health of the employee. An organization can succeed only when its long-term and short-term goals are met, and this is possible only when their skilled workforce is positive about the company, their own roles and responsibilities and wants to contribute to the success of the organization. Primarily, it is the senior people in the company who create its culture and their responsibility is to ensure that the workforce are in the right job, are in sync with the organizational values and are well compensated. For every employee, his job content, career progression, recognition of work is a very significant aspect for him to stay positive and keep contributing to the growth of the company. Organizations will need to ensure higher investment in planning, bringing better process and compliance rigor, increase opportunities for team members to de-stress, encourage games and hobbies, encourage counseling so that employee burnout is addressed effectively as and when a case comes to the fore.
